"The Old Man in
the Cave": In the 1963 Twilight
Zone episode "The Old Man in the Cave" it is 1974 and a small
group of town's people have survived for ten years after a nuclear war. The
people seem to always go against the advice of a certain Mr. Goldsmith. Mr. Goldsmith gets his advice from "The Old Man in the Cave". By going against the "Old Man", they plant crops in
areas that were declared radioactive. Consequently, they have a bad harvest. This is very reminiscent of the tribes of Israel , Moses,
and God. Eventually, a group of soldiers arrive. These soldiers declare that a pile of canned goods that the "Old Man" has declared radioactive
is actually good. The soldiers also force Mr. Goldsmith to show everyone this
"Old Man" that has been keeping everyone alive for ten years. When it
is revealed that the "Old Man" is actually a computer, the people
destroy it. With the food declared good, everyone except Mr. Goldsmith eat it. The next morning
everyone is dead -- except one lonely Mr. Goldsmith. In a bit of role reversal
here instead of a computer that bites, it is the humans who have bite. They just bit themselves in the ass.
