Maschinenmensch (aka Machine-man, Parody, Futura, Robotrix, (False) Maria, Hel, Ultima): Maschinenmensch starred in the Fritz Lang film Metropolis in 1927 which in turn was based off Thea von Harbou's novel written that same year. Ralph McQuarrie based his design for C3PO from Star Wars on Maschinenmensch. So in a word Mashinenmensch is Threepio's mommy.  (Image thanks to wikipedia)
